My Health Journey
I've spent years working on my own health. I struggled with weight issues since childhood, always carrying around extra weight. During my teenage years, I developed digestive issues and was diagnosed with IBS (before Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) was well known as it is today). Admittedly, I knew nothing about food or how it impacted my body, nor did I have any idea that it could affect how I felt. I remember not having good energy as a child. Looking back, I realize I was addicted to sugar, chocolate & junk food.
Over time, my digestion worsened. I was also carrying around an extra 20+ pounds (which is a lot of extra weight for my small 5' 3" frame) and I had a face full of acne. My doctor prescribed medication, which helped somewhat, but didn't completely make me feel better.
I began to wonder if maybe there was a connection with what I was eating and how my body was feeling. So I started researching and read anything I could find about nutrition and health, and started making some changes and began noticing improvements in how I felt. It certainly didn't happen overnight, but after years of trial and error, my digestion got better, my face cleared up and I lost the extra weight. I thought that if diet & lifestyle could make such a difference for me, that maybe it could help others too, along with saving them years of trial and error.
I studied functional nutrition and received my certification as a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® (FDN) is a type of detective work that identifies the underlying causes and conditions that cause disease instead of treating symptoms. Using functional lab work, we can recognize patterns of imbalance in the body and identify healing opportunities using a natural, holistic approach.
I also attended the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City and received my certification as a Certified International Health Coach (CIHC). During my training, we explored over 100 different dietary theories. What I learned is that no one diet works for everyone, as we are all wonderfully unique. I specialize in helping you find the foods that work best for your body, helping you to lose weight, feel great and heal naturally so you can live your best life.
